Philadelphia Phillies – Shuffled By The Cards

The Philadelphia Phillies have lost 2 out of the last 3 games to the St. Louis Cardinals.  This Friday’s game was a complete romping of the Cardinals with the Phils winning it by a score of 20-2.  Then Saturday’s game Kyle Lohse stopped the bleeding of the Cardinals long enough for a win of 3-2 despite Pat Burrell’s 2 run homerun.  Finally tonight’s game at Busch Stadium was rittled with poor pitching by Myers and shabby fielding with a costly 3 errors associated with the Phillies.  Brett Myers pitch 6 innings and allowing 6 runs with 3 of those runs due to the longball issued by the struggling righty.  There was also a throwing error by Chase Utley and a fielding error by Tom Gordon covering 1st base in the 10th inning that cost the Phillies the game.  Unfortunately these losses seem to over shadow Ryan Howard’s 9 RBI’s in the 3 game series.  Monday Cole Hamels (3.27 ERA) takes the mound in search of his 7th win against Bartolo Colon (3.41 ERA) and the the World Series Champion’s Boston Red Sox at Citizen Bank Park.  This will be the start of a 6 game homestand for the Phillies until they go back on the road to continue the interleague play.

Philadelphia Phillies – Utley Ridiculous

The Philadelphia Phillies jumped out to an early lead against the Cincinnati Reds with help from their 2nd base southpaw.  Chase Utley made the bell gong once again in the city of brotherly love with his 2 run shot in the 1st inning which gives him 21 homers in 2008.  The Phillies summoned the bell two more times in the 4th inning with Pedro Feliz’s 2 run homerun and Chris Coste’s solo blast to left field.  The final score was 5 to 4 with the Phils accruing 12 hits over 9 innings in Citizen Bank Park and remaining at the top of the N.L. East.  The Phillies are looking to gain back Jayson Werth from the D.L. hopefully by June 9th as long as he continues to progress, but they did release the left handed slugger Chris Snelling from the D.L. and sending T.J. Bohn back down to the Minors.  With the set backs on Kris Benson’s recovery the Phils are looking to remain with the starting rotation as Adam Eaton (5.20 ERA) takes the mound tomorrow against Aaron Harang (4.38 ERA).

Philadelphia Phillies – Dancing with Destiny

The greatest show on Earth has just rolled into town.  No, I am not referring to the circus, but the endearing Philadelphia Phillies.  Tonight the Phillies once again claimed their righteous spot on the throne on top of the N.L. East chart ahead of the floundering Florida Marlins.  The Phils trebbled their way through to claim 2 out of 3 from the Marlins with help tonight from Jenkins and Utley’s longballs.  Pat Burrell also contributed with a 2 run double which clinched it for the Phillies in the 7th inning.  Jamie Moyer claimed his 6th victory of 2008 by keeping the Phils in the game long enough for the clinch hitting offense to kick into gear.  Brad Lidge was his usual “Light’s out Lidge” tonight claiming his 13th save for the Phightins.  The Phillies are going into tommorow with a 4 game series against the Reds to finish the 10 game homestand at Citizen Bank Park.  Go Phils !

Phillies – Utley is Back in the Chase

Do you see any resemblance?  No, well both of them have the ability to unleash their bats and cause untold havoc on their opponents . . . .   Utley was back in his rare form yesterday when belted in 6 RBI’s against the Colorado Rockies.  The Philadelphia Phillies as a team knocked in 20 runs on 19 hits and rung the bells from Philly to Gotham.  Jamie Moyer was able to collect his 5th win of the season thanks to his unrivaled offensive barrage by his teammates.  Chase Utley went 3 for 6 with a 3 run homerun in the 1st inning to answer back to Ryan Spilborghs 3 run homer in the top of the 1st.  Chris Coste and So Taguchi both had a 3 hit game along with Pedro Feliz going 4 for 6 at the plate.  The Phillies have had an incredible streak over the past 2 games having slugged 35 runs scored on 35 hits.  Maybe this is just a little payback from last year’s post season?

70 Philly Dingers, Dongers, or Taters

No matter what you call it they are impressive feats.  The Philadelphia Phillies are currently at 70 homeruns which leads Major League Baseball with the next team (Marlins) floundering 5 in the hole.  Are the bats starting to come alive in Philly?  Well if you consider 30 hits in the past 2 games lively then you have your answer.  The bulk of their homeruns are comprised of the the top 5 which are Chase Utley (14), Ryan Howard (13), Pat Burrell (11), Jayson Werth (9), and Pedro Feliz (7).  The Phillies are currently on pace to 231 towering drives this year which would be equal to the Milwaukee Brewers 2007 season totals.  Pat Gillick and Charlie Manuel put together a team this year that not only improved upon their starting rotation and bullpen, but they will even top out last year’s Phillies offensive on slaught.  What the Phillies fans waited 14 yrs for last year may be coming to us a little quicker this year!
